Church Lady Takes Aim at Gaetz and Biden in SNL Cold Open

In a biting cold open for “Saturday Night Live,” Dana Carvey’s iconic character, the Church Lady, sat down with Matt Gaetz (played by Sarah Sherman) to discuss his past transgressions. The skit was part of a lineup featuring various guests representing the “most Satanic year in history.”

The Church Lady began by expressing concern over Gaetz’s appearance, prompting him to sarcastically respond that he just looked normal. The character then warned Gaetz about repenting before Christmas, but he quipped, “You had me at 17!” In another segment, David Spade (playing Hunter Biden) appeared on stage with Carvey, and their mock interview was marred by controversy surrounding Biden’s pardon.

The SNL sketch also included a visit from baseball player Juan Soto, who joined the Church Lady in a rousing rendition of “Satan had a good year!” The cold open marked an unusual turn for the show’s character-driven content.
