Citigroup has launched a new high-fee credit card offering, the Citi Strata Elite Card, providing extra rewards points on travel purchases and additional benefits for travelers using American Airlines. The card competes with other premium cards like American Express’ Platinum Card and JPMorgan Chase’s Sapphire Reserve Card.
The Strata Elite card offers an annual $300 hotel credit, six times the points on air travel, and 12 times the points on hotel, car rental, and attraction purchases made through Cititravel.com. The card also includes perks for non-travel spending, such as earning 1½ times the points on all other purchases.
Compared to other premium cards, Citi’s Strata Elite Card has a lower annual fee of $595, which is lower than American Express’ Platinum Card ($695) and JPMorgan Chase’s Sapphire Reserve Card ($795). The card’s benefits and rewards structure are designed to appeal to travelers who value flexibility and convenience.
However, experts caution that high-reward cards can be misleading, emphasizing the importance of considering factors like interest rates, annual fees, and late fees when choosing a credit card.
