Microsoft has issued a warning that the January 2025 Windows 11 and Windows 10 cumulative updates may fail if Citrix Session Recording Agent (SRA) version 2411 is installed on devices. This issue affects a limited number of organizations, but home users are not expected to be impacted.
The problem arises when the SRA installation prevents the Windows security update from updating certain drivers, leading to an error message that causes the update to fail. To resolve this issue, Citrix has released a support bulletin with a basic workaround.
To disable the Session Recording Monitoring service and install the updates, follow these steps:
1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
2. Scroll down until you see Citrix Session Recording Monitor Service.
3. Right-click on the service and select Properties.
4. Click the Stop button to stop the service, then set it to “Disabled” and press OK.
Once the updates are installed, enable the service by repeating these steps, setting it to “Automatic”.
Citrix has also shared alternative methods for disabling the service using PowerShell and the Windows Command Prompt.
The latest Windows updates should now be installed, providing protection against the latest security vulnerabilities.
