Firaxis has hinted at plans for a fourth age in Civilization 7, although the developer has not officially confirmed it. In an interview with IGN, lead designer Ed Beach discussed how the team settled on ending the game’s current version after World War II. According to Beach, they analyzed historical events and found that empires often crumbled during a similar time period, around the 300-500 CE era.
The Modern Age ends before the Cold War in Civilization 7, with Beach citing revolutions like the French Revolution as a key point for transitioning into the next age. The team’s goal is to create unique gameplay systems and historical events that feel authentic.
Executive producer Dennis Shirk hinted at future plans, but did not confirm details about a fourth age. However, some dataminers have found references to an “Atomic Age” in Civilization 7, which could be connected to this potential new age. The development team is currently working on addressing community complaints and improving the game’s overall performance.
While Firaxis has not officially announced plans for a fourth age, the developer’s comments suggest that it may be a possibility in the future.
