Microsoft has resolved a crashing issue in its Classic Outlook application for Windows Server 2016. The problem, which caused the app to crash when starting a new email or replying/forwarding messages, was detected and addressed by the tech giant.
According to Microsoft’s support document, the fix is available on the Current Channel, with an estimated release date of January 28, 2025. However, users can work around the issue by reverting to a previous version of Classic Outlook (Build 18227.20162) using a workaround provided by Microsoft.
To apply this workaround, users need to follow these steps:
1. Open a Command Prompt in administrator mode.
2. Navigate to the `%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun` directory and execute the following commands:
* `officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.18227.20162`
3. To prevent Office from updating back to the latest build, go to File > Office Account > Update Options > Disable Updates.
4. Set a reminder for February 11th to re-enable updates.
Users can find more information on this known issue and its resolution in Microsoft’s official support document.
