Classic Outlook Email Bug Causes App Crash

Microsoft has confirmed a bug in classic Outlook that can cause the app to crash when creating a new email. This issue affects users who have updated to version 2412 (Build 18324.20168). Users on newer versions of Outlook, such as the latest build due out January 28, 2025, are not affected.

To troubleshoot this issue, check the Windows Event Viewer Application Log for crash Event 1000 or Event 1001 with specific error details. If you’re experiencing issues, try rolling back to a previous version of classic Outlook or following Microsoft’s steps to mitigate the problem:

– Open a Command Prompt in Administrator mode
– Type and paste two commands into the Command Prompt window:
– cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRunofficec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.18227.20162
– To prevent Office updates, select File > Office Account > Update Options > Disable Updates and schedule a reminder for February 11th to re-enable updates.

A fix for this issue is expected to roll out later this month, with the corrected build due out on January 28, 2025.
