Larry Dolan, the owner of the Cleveland Guardians since 2000, has died at the age of 94. The team announced his passing on Monday, stating that he had passed away due to natural causes.
Dolan was a longtime resident of Cleveland and purchased the team from Richard Jacobs in 2000 for $320 million. He played an active role in the community, serving as a First Lieutenant in the US Marines and engaging in various philanthropic efforts.
The Dolan family has maintained control of the team since its purchase, with chairman and CEO Paul Dolan taking over primary control in 2013. The Guardians have won several division titles and made postseason appearances under Dolan’s ownership.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred praised Dolan for his commitment to mentoring young people and serving the community. Dolan is survived by his wife Eva, six children, and 21 grandchildren.
