Cleveland Guardians owner Larry Dolan has passed away at age 94, the team announced Monday. A lifelong resident of Cleveland, Dolan purchased the team in 2000 from Richard Jacobs for $323 million.
Dolan’s family, including his son Paul, spoke highly of his impact on the community. “Mr. Dolan invested his entire life in Greater Cleveland and impacted our community on so many levels,” said Bob DiBiasio, SVP of public affairs for the Guardians.
The team has had relative success since Dolan took over, with 14 winning seasons and nine playoff appearances. The Guardians won the AL pennant in 2016, appearing in their sixth World Series.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred also expressed his condolences, saying Dolan “strongly believed in mentoring young people and using the Guardians as a way to impact Greater Cleveland.”
Dolan is survived by his wife Eva, six children, and 21 grandchildren.
