Renowned primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall has warned that humanity is facing its sixth great extinction, due to rising temperatures and habitat destruction. The 90-year-old expert, who has dedicated her life to protecting the environment and endangered species, emphasizes the urgent need for action.
Goodall’s foundation and non-profit technology company, Ecosia, have been working on tree-planting and habitat restoration projects in Uganda, aiming to restore habitats of threatened chimpanzees. However, she stresses that climate change poses a significant threat to our planet, with deforestation contributing to the crisis.
“We still have a window of time to start slowing down climate change and loss of biodiversity,” Goodall says. “But it’s a window that’s closing.”
The world is witnessing rising temperatures, more frequent extreme weather events, and devastating effects on wildlife populations. Goodall attributes these changes to human activities, such as industrial farming and fossil fuel use.
