George Clooney is set to make history by starring in a live play adaptation of his 2005 film “Good Night, and Good Luck” on CNN. The penultimate performance of the stage production will air live from the Winter Garden Theatre tonight at 7 p.m. ET.
The play, which received five Tony nominations including Best Performance by a Leading Actor for Clooney’s portrayal of Edward R. Murrow, is based on Murrow’s work with CBS News and his tension with Republican Sen. Joseph McCarthy during the Red Scare. The production will be broadcast live on CNN, with special pre-show coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Viewers can watch the play for free on Hulu + Live TV, which offers three days of free content and includes CNN. Clooney expressed excitement about the live broadcast, stating that it’s a “perfect place to bring this story of courage” to a wider audience. Following the play, CNN’s Anderson Cooper will lead a discussion about the state of global journalism.
The play features an all-star cast, including Ilana Glazer, Glenn Fleshler, and Clark Gregg, among others. With Clooney making his Broadway debut in the record-breaking production, tonight’s live broadcast promises to be a historic moment for the Tony Awards.
