Conner Smith, a country singer performing at the annual CMA Fest, was involved in a fatal car accident that killed an elderly woman crossing the street in downtown Nashville. The 24-year-old driver hit Dorothy Dobbins, 77, near Van Buren Street as she crossed the marked crosswalk. Dobbins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.
Police say Smith failed to yield to the pedestrian and there are no charges at present as the investigation continues. Smith’s attorney confirmed in a statement that he was involved in the accident but had shown no signs of impairment. The singer, known for his song “I Hate Alabama,” cooperates with the ongoing investigation and released from custody immediately.
The incident occurred on the final day of CMA Fest, where Smith performed but did not make any statements about the crash.
