Drinking coffee at the right time may be key to reaping its health benefits. A new study published in the European Heart Journal found that morning coffee drinkers had a lower risk of death from heart disease, compared to those who drank coffee throughout the day or didn’t drink it at all.
Researchers analyzed data from over 40,000 adults and found that morning coffee drinkers were 16% less likely to die from all-cause mortality and 31% less likely to die from cardiovascular disease. The study suggests that drinking coffee before midday may be particularly beneficial for heart health.
The researchers point out that the exact reason behind this effect is unknown, but they propose that it may have something to do with coffee’s impact on hormones and internal body clocks. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings.
