Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has warned that it may have been hit with a cyberattack resulting in a loss of up to $400 million. The company claims that hackers bribed some of its staff overseas, but rejected a $20 million ransom demand.
The attack occurred while Coinbase was preparing to join the S&P 500 index, a prestigious market benchmark. Despite the incident, the company’s stock price remains stable, and it is expected to be added to the index in just a few days.
