Coldplay Pays Tribute to Oasis at Wembley Stadium Show

Coldplay kicked off their 10-date residency at Wembley Stadium, with Chris Martin referencing Oasis during the show. The band played a snippet of Oasis’ ‘Roll With It’ during the intro to ‘Paradise’, and invited a fan onto the stage in an elephant onesie. Martin also picked out flags from around the world displayed by fans, including Palestine, Argentina, and Ireland.

The band brought out Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna for ‘We Pray’. When it came to the viral ‘kiss-cam’ segment, Martin joked about those who should be at work being able to “lower themselves” now. The show ended with a proposal, as Martin paused the performance to allow a fan to get down on one knee and propose to his partner.

Coldplay’s 10-date Wembley residency beats records held by Taylor Swift and Take That, with all dates featuring a 10% donation to the Music Venue Trust. Proceeds will help fund and support grassroots venues, which are facing an “absolute collapse of touring” in the UK.

The band’s members expressed their commitment to supporting local spaces and emerging talent. Chris Martin stated that organisations like Music Venue Trust are crucial for new artists, citing Brexit as a major obstacle for European touring.
