Coldplay’s Chris Martin Apologizes for Britain’s Colonial Past

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has thanked fans in Mumbai, India, for forgiving the British for its colonial past during the band’s recent concert at DY Patil Stadium. This is part of their Music of Spheres world tour, which also includes stops in Hong Kong and Seoul.

Martin expressed his gratitude to the Indian audience for welcoming him and the band despite Britain’s history of exploitation and poverty in India from 1858 to 1947. The British government profited heavily from colonial rule, but has never formally apologized for colonizing India.

The concert was attended by around 75,000 people and marked the band’s first performance in India since 2016. Coldplay will continue their Asian tour with upcoming dates in Hong Kong and Seoul.

Additionally, fans can stream Coldplay’s Republic Day performance from Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Disney+ Hotstar on January 26, along with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. The band will also stream “A Film For The Future” on YouTube on January 22, featuring special 360-degree screenings in London, Manchester, and Seoul.
