DC’s superhero flick, Sgt. Rock, starring Colin Farrell as the titular character, has faced a significant setback. The film, which was set to enter production in the coming months, has been delayed indefinitely due to logistical concerns.
Studio insiders confirmed that shooting this summer would not be feasible, as the team would have had to rush through preparation to capture optimal weather conditions for the cast, crew, and equipment. The majority of filming will take place in the UK, where winter exteriors would be challenging for the actors and technical teams.
The delay comes after the film was greenlit months ago with a budget of $65 million. Director Luca Guadagnino had been scouting locations as recently as last week, while David Jonsson and Mike Faist were set to join Colin Farrell in the project.
Sgt. Rock is a World War II-set superhero actioner based on the DC Comics character created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert. The film was initially conceived under Matt Reeves’ Batman universe, but it will now be part of the new DC Studios slate.
Guadagnino’s next project, After the Hunt, is set for release on October 10, starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri. The director has also been exploring a revamp of American Psycho for Lionsgate, but it remains to be seen which project he will pursue next.
DC Studios’ Superman is scheduled for release on July 11, following the news that Sgt. Rock production has been put on hold.
