A federal investigation into a high-stakes betting ring linked to two NBA cases has revealed involvement in college basketball wagering activity on at least three men’s programs this season. Sources tell ESPN that sportsbook accounts connected to the gambling ring bet against North Carolina A&T, Mississippi Valley State, and Eastern Michigan in games this season. The ring also placed large wagers on prop bets involving former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter and veteran guard Terry Rozier.
Porter admitted to manipulating his performance for gambling purposes during two games last season, while Rozier has declined to comment on a reported investigation into unusual betting on his performance. Meanwhile, betting integrity monitors have flagged suspicious activity in two Eastern Michigan games this season, including a game where the point spread moved unusually during the first half.
The ring targeted additional college basketball programs over the past two seasons and is also being scrutinized for its involvement in a 2023 game involving the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans, which drew unusual betting interest on Rozier. The NBA has cooperated with investigators and cleared Rozier of any wrongdoing.
