College Football Week 0 Winners and Losers

College football teams opened their seasons with five games in Week 0, providing a glimpse into the upcoming season. Iowa State’s victory over Kansas State in Ireland may be the turning point for the program, which could now aim to achieve back-to-back double-digit wins.

Iowa State beat Kansas State 24-21, thanks to coach Matt Campbell’s decision to go for it on fourth down instead of kicking a field goal. This win gives the Cyclones an edge as a tiebreaker in the Big 12 Conference.

Kansas also made a strong showing, beating Fresno State 31-7 and nearly getting into bowl play last season. The Jayhawks’ new stadium was put to good use, with quarterback Jalon Daniels throwing for three touchdowns.

Western Kentucky dominated Sam Houston State 41-24, with senior quarterback Maverick McIvor completing 33 of 51 passes for 401 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other hand, Kansas State’s loss to Iowa State will impact their chances in the Big 12 Conference. The Wildcats had a close game, but ultimately fell short due to turnovers and penalties.

Stanford’s loss to Hawaii was largely attributed to an interception by interim coach Frank Reich, who also made another mistake with timing out of timeouts when Hawaii was driving deep into Stanford territory.

UNLV won against Idaho State 38-31, and while it’s a good start for the team, their performance doesn’t necessarily mean they’re on track for the playoffs.
