Colombia Sees Deadly Violence in Catatumbo Region

Clashes between rival guerrilla groups in a northeast region near Venezuela’s border have killed over 80 people and displaced more than 11,000, according to Colombian officials. The violence is one of the deadliest waves since Colombia’s 2016 peace accords, threatening the country’s “total peace” program under President Gustavo Petro. Tensions with US President Donald Trump’s administration also rise, as his allies criticize Petro’s approach to conflict and cocaine production in Colombia.
