Colorado has reported two more cases of measles, bringing the total number of cases in 2025 to 14. The new cases are tied to five locations where they may have exposed others, including three hospitals and an urgent care clinic.
The latest cases involve a 5-year-old child from El Paso County who recently traveled to Ontario, Canada, and was vaccinated with one dose of MMR vaccine, while the other case is in an adult from Arapahoe County who was unvaccinated. The child’s vaccination status is concerning as they are only due for their second dose.
Colorado has seen a significant increase in measles cases this year, with more than double the number reported in the previous decade. In total, eight of those infected have been unvaccinated.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has identified five locations where exposure may have occurred, including:
– Powers Pointe Urgent Care
– HCA HealthONE Aurora Medical Center Emergency Department
– Safeway
– St. Francis Medical Center Emergency Department
– UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital Emergency Department
People who may have been exposed to measles should call ahead to their doctor, hospital, or local public health department before seeking medical care. Measles typically starts with symptoms similar to a common cold and progresses to a distinctive rash.
The most effective prevention for measles is vaccination. A one-dose MMR vaccine is 93% effective at preventing the disease, while two doses are 97% effective.
