Colorado has reported 12 measles cases this year, the most seen since at least 1996. The highly contagious disease can linger in the air for up to two hours and may cause fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a distinctive facial rash.
Public health officials have identified exposure locations in Denver, Aurora, Glendale, Windsor, Colorado Springs, and Grand Junction where people may have contracted measles. These include:
– Children’s Hospital Colorado emergency department (Aurora)
– Walgreens (Aurora)
– Sam’s Club (Aurora)
– Natural Grocers (Aurora)
– Love’s Travel Stop and Carl’s Jr. (Grand Junction)
– Maverick Gas Station (Colorado Springs)
– Trader Joe’s (Denver)
– Single Barrel Bar And Grill (Colorado Springs)
– King Soopers (Colorado Springs, Windsor)
People who visited these locations during specified times should monitor themselves for symptoms, which can last up to three weeks. If symptoms develop, they should call ahead before seeking medical care to protect other patients.
Health officials will update the list of exposure locations and provide further guidance as necessary. Sign up for our weekly newsletter to stay informed about health news sent straight to your inbox.
