Colossal Biosciences Secures $200M Investment from TWG Global for De-Extinction Efforts

Colossal Biosciences, the company behind an ambitious de-extinction program, has raised another $200 million in funding through a Series C round led by TWG Global. This investment brings the total funding to $435 million and values Colossal at $10.2 billion.

The new funding will be used to advance genetic engineering technologies and develop revolutionary software, wetware, and hardware solutions that can be applied beyond de-extinction efforts, such as species preservation and human healthcare.

Colossal CEO Ben Lamm said the investment will help the company scale quickly and efficiently, allowing it to grow its team, expand its de-extinction species list, and continue its mission to make extinction a thing of the past.

The company already has notable investors, including Oscar winners Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, former Amazon executive Jeff Wilke, and video game pioneer Richard Garriott. TWG Global’s CEO Mark Walter, who also leads Guggenheim Partners and owns MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers and Chelsea FC, added that Colossal is a leading company working at the intersection of AI, computational biology, and genetic engineering.

Colossal operates its own labs in Dallas, Boston, and Melbourne and partners with 16 universities worldwide. The company has already worked on projects to preserve endangered species, including helping care for the last northern white rhinoceros.
