The Indianapolis Colts have hired Lou Anarumo, formerly the defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals, to lead their defense under head coach Shane Steichen. Anarumo joins the Colts after being fired by the Bengals on January 6, following a season where the team’s defense ranked 25th in the league. The Bengals’ defense allowed 348.3 yards per game and missed the playoffs.
The move comes as the Colts replaced defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who was let go just one day earlier. Last season, the Colts’ defense struggled, ranking 29th in yards allowed with a single loss to the Giants that gave up 45 points.
Anarumo has over 13 years of experience on NFL sidelines and previously coached the Bengals’ defense during their 2021 postseason run, where they intercepted Patrick Mahomes twice. Despite recent struggles, Steichen and the Colts believe Anarumo’s tenure with the Bengals was due to talent on the field rather than his coaching.
Anarumo will now lead a new-look Colts defense, aiming to improve upon last season’s performance.
