Colts’ QB Coach Weighs In on Failed Anthony Richardson Development

The Indianapolis Colts’ decision to start Daniel Jones over Anthony Richardson has left many questioning whether the team failed in its development of the young quarterback. Cam Turner, the team’s quarterbacks coach since drafting Richardson No. 4 overall in the 2023 NFL draft, recently addressed the question.

Turner acknowledged that he has tried everything possible to help Richardson succeed, but still believes consistency is a major issue for him. Injuries and Richardson’s own lack of reliability have been significant factors. However, Turner did not entirely accept the notion that both parties had given their best efforts, citing concerns over trust between Richardson and the Colts.

The team’s brass has repeatedly stated their intention to be patient with Richardson, but their actions have fallen short. The limited opportunities for him on the field and benching him twice have raised questions about whether Indianapolis did enough to help Richardson develop into a leader. With Richardson’s agent suggesting a “questionable” trust between the quarterback and the team, it appears that the Colts may have made a mistake in their development process.
