Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced that both quarterback Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson will play significant roles in the team’s preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens. The coaches plan to split the snaps between the two quarterbacks, with one playing a good amount in the first game and the other in the second.
Steichen emphasized that every rep, walkthrough, and meeting matters as the team evaluates its quarterback options. The next three weeks will feature key evaluation points, including joint practices and preseason games against the Ravens, Green Bay Packers, and Cincinnati Bengals.
The coaches are taking a cautious approach to avoid splitting the reps unevenly within a single game. Steichen also expressed his thoughts on safety Trey Washington’s tackling technique during an 11-on-11 period, which resulted in a serious leg injury for running back Salvon Ahmed. The team came together to support Ahmed, showcasing their tightness and camaraderie.
The defensive line had a productive practice, with several players recording sacks or making impactful plays. Quarterbacks Jones and Richardson also completed passes and showcased their skills, while the rest of the team showed improvement in various areas.
