Colts’ Salvon Ahmed Suffers Severe Ankle Injury During Practice

Indianapolis Colts running back Salvon Ahmed suffered a severe ankle injury during practice on Sunday when undrafted free agent Trey Washington dragged him down with a hip-drop tackle near the goal line. The team immediately halted practice and took Ahmed off the field after placing an air cast on his leg.

Colts coach Shane Steichen acknowledged that the injury was preventable, saying “We don’t encourage hip-drop tackles.” However, he believes Washington’s intention was to make a play rather than intentionally hurt Ahmed. The team decided to continue practicing despite the incident.

Players and coaches expressed their concern for Ahmed’s well-being, with middle linebacker Zaire Franklin stating that the team is “there for him in the ups and downs.” Tight end Will Mallory added that the injury was tough to watch, but the team is there to support each other. Coach Steichen has offered prayers for a speedy recovery for Ahmed.

The incident marks a turning point for the Colts as they head into joint practice with the Ravens on Tuesday. With Ahmed’s injury, the team will have to adjust its strategy and find alternative ways to create an edge without compromising player safety.
