Columbia Hosts Butterfly Release to Honor Ovarian Cancer Awareness

The Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Central SC (OCC) is hosting a butterfly release event today at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Columbia, in an effort to raise awareness about ovarian cancer. Nearly 20,000 women are diagnosed with the disease each year, with over 15,000 losing their lives. However, if detected early, the five-year survival rate jumps to 93%. To honor those affected and promote awareness, hundreds of butterflies will be released at the State House in memory or tribute to loved ones. A donation-based event supports OCC’s mission to spread awareness across the Midlands.
