Comcast has acknowledged that its lack of transparent pricing and frequent rate increases have led to a significant loss of customers. In the first quarter of 2025, the company reported a net loss of 183,000 residential broadband subscribers, with its total subscriber base decreasing to 29.19 million.
The decline in customers is attributed to several factors, including price transparency and predictability, as well as ease of doing business with Comcast. To address these issues, the company plans to simplify its pricing structure, making it clearer for consumers to understand the value they receive from its broadband services.
Comcast has announced a new five-year price guarantee for customers who sign up for a new package. This means that customers will pay a simple monthly price starting at $55 per month, without having to enter a contract. The company also offers one year of Xfinity Mobile at no charge as part of the guarantee.
The admission from Comcast comes as the internet service provider faces increasing competition from fiber and fixed wireless ISPs in the market. Despite this, the company’s overall profit beat analyst expectations, and domestic broadband revenue rose 1.7 percent year over year to $6.56 billion. However, its stock price fell 3.7 percent following the announcement of the customer loss.
