Comedian and former late-night talk show host David Letterman made a surprise appearance at Carver-Hawkeye Arena to watch the Iowa women’s basketball team take on No. 4 USC in their Big Ten showdown. The reason behind his visit was to show support for Caitlin Clark, an all-time leading scorer in NCAA college basketball history and a member of the Indiana Fever.
Clark’s jersey retirement ceremony marked a milestone event that drew attention from celebrities and fans alike. Letterman, who is a fan of women’s basketball, sat courtside next to former Iowa coach Lisa Bluder, watching the Hawkeyes secure just their second loss of the season.
A native of Indianapolis, Letterman has a personal connection to the Indiana Fever, which Clark plays for. He previously hosted WNBA Rookie of the Year at Ball State in December as part of his Distinguished Professional Lecture and Workshop Series. With Iowa’s Big Ten showdown against USC underway, it was clear that Letterman had come to support Clark and the Hawkeyes’ efforts on the court.
