Comedian Paul Rodriguez has accused a Burbank police officer of slapping him in the face to wake him up during a traffic stop, claiming it was racially motivated and part of an “power trip.” The incident occurred when Rodriguez’s friend was pulled over for a traffic violation, and officers allegedly found narcotics in the car.
Rodriguez claims he was not involved with the substances and was asleep in the passenger seat when the stop happened. He says one of the officers slapped him awake, causing physical harm. However, police initially reported that Rodriguez was arrested for misdemeanor possession of narcotics.
Rodriguez’s attorney, Bobby Samini, has expressed support for his client’s allegations, stating that his civil rights were violated during the arrest and treatment. The case is currently being investigated by the city attorney’s office.
As the situation unfolds, Rodriguez plans to file a formal complaint with the police department. The incident raises concerns about racial bias and police misconduct, which will be addressed through an investigation of the body camera footage.
