Commanders’ Jayden Daniels Out for Exhibition Opener

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will miss the team’s exhibition opener against New England due to injury, coach Dan Quinn said on Wednesday. The main reason is a lower leg strain affecting backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, who did not travel with the team and will be working through his injury.

However, it was expected that Daniels would have a significant workload during practice earlier in the week as well as several other players. This means Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman are likely to handle the offense in Friday’s game.

Additionally, receiver Terry McLaurin also will not play in the exhibition game due to an ankle injury that puts him on the physically unable to perform list. Contract talks continue to hinder his availability.
