Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman of Infosys, predicts that large language models (LLMs) will become commoditized as the technology advances. Instead, the real value will come from the applications built on top of these models.
According to Nilekani, many companies are already working on India-specific LLM solutions for Indian languages, which means every part of the world with unique data will need to train its own AI models. As a result, the models themselves will become more commoditized, and the value will shift to the application layer and the entire stack.
Nilekani believes that the integration of AI into businesses (also known as enterprise AI) is a longer cycle than consumer AI. While consumers can start using chatbots immediately, enterprises need to fundamentally change their internal processes, making it a more significant undertaking.
In this context, Infosys’ chairman suggests that the next wave of value from AI will come from the applications and related technologies built on top of these models, rather than the models themselves.
