BAFTA nominations have been announced for next month’s awards ceremony, with Edward Berger’s papal thriller “Conclave” leading the pack in terms of nominations. The film is in the running for 12 awards, including best picture and best director.
Berger’s film will compete against Jacques Audiard’s transgender musical “Emilia Pérez,” which received six nominations. The two films will face stiff competition from other nominees, including Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini, who are up for leading actor and supporting actress categories.
Other notable nominees include Hugh Grant, who was a dark horse inclusion in the best actor shortlist, and Colman Domingo, who is up for his performance in prison drama “Sing Sing.”
The nominations also reflect Bafta’s efforts to increase diversity and representation. The ceremony will feature more women and people of color than ever before, with four nominees for outstanding British film directed by women.
The BAFTA awards will take place on February 16th, with David Tennant returning to host.
