Conduent Breach Exposes 25 Million US Residents’ Personal Info

A massive cyberattack has exposed Social Security numbers and health details of at least 25 million Americans, making it the largest breach in US history. The breach, caused by a New Jersey-based contractor, affected multiple states including Texas (15.4 million), Oregon (10.5 million), Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Georgia, South Carolina, New Jersey, Maine, and New Mexico.

The hacked data includes addresses, Social Security numbers, and health information. Consumers can check if their info was exposed using HaveIBeenPwned.com, a website that scans known breach databases. To protect themselves, experts recommend:

* Freezing credit with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion
* Adding a fraud alert on credit files
* Monitoring credit reports and bank statements closely
* Changing passwords and enabling two-factor authentication
* Considering reputable data-removal or identity protection services

Conduent has acknowledged the breach, which occurred from October 21, 2024 to January 13, 2025. The Safepay ransomware group claims responsibility, but it’s unclear if they demanded a ransom. Consumers are advised to be cautious of phishing messages and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
