Congo Outbreak: Deadly Disease Claims Over 50 Lives

A mysterious disease is sweeping through one region in the Democratic Republic of Congo, claiming over 50 lives. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly half of the deaths occurred within two days of symptoms starting.

The WHO has partnered with local health officials to investigate the outbreak, which has linked 431 cases so far. The origin of the outbreak was traced to three children under five who consumed a bat carcass, leading to fever, headache, diarrhea, and fatigue – later progressing to signs associated with hemorrhagic fevers and death.

Despite initial fears that it could be Ebola or Marburg, officials have ruled out these diseases. The remote location and weak healthcare infrastructure in the area are contributing factors to the spread of the disease, warns the WHO.
