A mysterious flu-like illness, known as “Disease X”, has been reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with 147 new cases confirmed over the past week. Efforts to transport specimens for testing have been hindered by difficulties in obtaining good quality samples to a national laboratory in Kinshasa. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is working to identify the outbreak, but progress has been delayed due to logistical challenges.
