Conner’s Big Day Leads Cardinals Past Patriots 30-17

The Arizona Cardinals defeated the New England Patriots 30-17 on Sunday, with running back James Conner scoring a triple-digit day of 110 yards and two touchdowns.

Conner’s performance was a crucial factor in the Cardinals’ win, which marks his first game this season with multiple touchdowns and fifth game with at least 100 rushing yards. The Cardinals had previously struggled to contain opposing teams in the fourth quarter, but Conner’s big day changed that.

The Patriots scored both of their touchdowns in the fourth quarter, courtesy of quarterback Drake Maye’s shovel-pass touchdown near the goal line and his own rushing touchdown later in the game. However, the Cardinals’ defense held strong for most of the contest, limiting New England to only one touchdown in the first three quarters.

For the Cardinals to have a chance at the playoffs, they will need outside help from other teams, particularly the Seattle Seahawks. A win by the Cardinals and losses from the Seahawks would reset the conversation about their playoff chances. The team’s next game against the Carolina Panthers is also crucial, with Bryce Young’s elevated play potentially posing a challenge.

In the second half, the Cardinals’ offense began to gel, but it was the defense that received much of the credit for the win. With the Patriots unable to score in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals’ defense was able to hold strong and secure the victory.

While the win is a step in the right direction, the Cardinals still have a long way to go if they want to secure an NFC West title and make the playoffs. Nevertheless, their slim playoff hopes remain alive thanks to Conner’s big day and a solid defensive effort.
