Duke’s Cooper Flagg closed out his home season with a statement performance, leading the Blue Devils to a 93-60 win over Wake Forest. The projected NBA top pick finished with 28 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.
Flagg was visibly emotional as he left the court, surrounded by chants of “One more year!” from the crowd. However, when asked about his future, Flagg remained tight-lipped.
“I was just playing with a lot of emotion and fire,” Flagg said. Coach Jon Scheyer noted that Flagg’s performance was indicative of the team’s high level play, but emphasized that there is still work to be done.
The win marked Duke’s perfect 17-0 season at Cameron Indoor Stadium, with the Blue Devils dominating their opponents by at least 30 points for the fourth straight game. Flagg recalled his favorite moment from the season as a coast-to-coast dunk against Pitt, but praised teammate Sion James’ highlight-reel dunk against NC State.
For Flagg, leaving Duke’s historic arena was bittersweet, with the crowd’s enthusiasm making it hard to say goodbye. “This is the best place in college basketball,” Flagg said. “I’ve loved every single minute of being here.”
