The Los Angeles Rams have released wide receiver Cooper Kupp, the team announced on Wednesday. This decision comes just days after the team signed six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams to a two-year deal.
Kupp had expressed his disappointment with the decision in early February, stating that he disagreed with the team’s plan and believed it would end in LA. In a recent post, Kupp reflected on his release, saying “Next chapter starts now” and promising that “the best is yet to come.”
The Rams designated Kupp a post-June cut, meaning they will carry his $29.78 million cap hit until then. However, this move will save the team $15 million in cap space next season.
Kupp spent eight seasons with the Rams, leading the NFL in receptions and receiving yards in 2021. His time with the team was marked by significant success, including a Super Bowl win and MVP award. Despite dealing with injuries, Kupp remains one of the most prolific receivers in the league, with over 7,700 receiving yards.
Kupp’s departure leaves a void for the Rams, but the team is confident that Adams will fill the gap. The news comes as a surprise to fans, who were hoping Kupp would remain with the team.
