Cooper Kupp, the former Super Bowl MVP receiver, is drawing interest from several teams as he becomes available in free agency. Despite being a post-June 1 cut by the Rams, Kupp is not involved in the sweepstakes, according to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz.
Several teams have emerged as potential suitors for Kupp, including the Patriots, Texans, and Seahawks. The Patriots, who recently lost Chris Godwin to the Buccaneers, are believed to be interested in Kupp but may have concerns about his asking price.
Kupp has drawn interest from at least five teams, with reports suggesting that he is being linked to two AFC South teams. The Jaguars and Texans are among the possibilities, with Ian Rapoport mentioning them during an NFL Network appearance.
A deal averaging around $12MM per year has come up for Kupp, but some teams may be pushed out of this market due to the price point. The Seahawks, who have a need for a starter-caliber wideout after moving on from Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf, are also being considered.
The Patriots’ loss in the Calvin Ridley sweepstakes last year and their struggles attracting receivers in recent years may have contributed to their hesitation in pursuing Kupp. Additionally, the team’s cap space and issues in recent years make it unclear whether they can offer a competitive deal for Kupp.
Kupp, 31, played at Division I-FCS Eastern Washington before being drafted by the Rams in 2017. The Seahawks bringing him home could be a strategic move to help quarterback Sam Darnold, who has been without a reliable wideout since his Super Bowl MVP award.
The Patriots’ target for Kupp may not be within their budget, and other teams such as the Texans, Seahawks, and Falcons are also in the mix. While Kupp’s asking price is viewed as steep, he remains a coveted free agent receiver with several suitors vying for his services.
