Costco Avoids Strike with Tentative Agreement

Costco and the Teamsters union have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, preventing a strike among 18,000 workers in six US states. The deal must be approved by union members but details remain unclear.

The Teamsters represent Costco employees across the country, despite the company having over 600 stores globally. A recent vote showed that union members were willing to go on strike if no agreement was reached by Friday’s contract expiration. However, a statement from Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien indicates the union seeks an “industry-leading contract” that reflects the company’s significant profits, which rose 5% in the latest fiscal year.

A contract is expected to be approved but no specifics have been released yet.
