Costco Workers Authorize Nationwide Strike Over Wages and Benefits

The Teamsters union, representing over 18,000 Costco workers across the US, has voted to authorize a nationwide strike. The union says “fair wages and benefits” are the main reasons for the strike, despite Costco’s $254 billion in annual revenue and $7.4 billion in net profits. In preparation for the strike, hundreds of workers organized practice pickets from California to New York. Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien warned Costco executives that if they don’t meet their demands, there will be no one left to blame but themselves. The strike is set to begin unless the company agrees to a “historic, industry-leading agreement” by January 31.
