The winners of the 2023 Costume Designers Guild Awards have been announced, with three films taking home top prizes in the feature film categories. “Conclave” won in the Excellence in Contemporary Film category, “Wicked” took home the award for Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film, and “Nosferatu” emerged victorious in the Excellence in Period Film category.
These awards are significant, as they often precede the Academy Awards and have a proven track record of predicting winners. In fact, one of the CDG Award winners has gone on to win the Oscar for Best Costume Design nine times over the past 15 years. This year’s winners, however, will be competing in the same category at the Oscars.
In addition to these feature film awards, the CDG also recognized talent in television with wins in various categories, including period costumes, sci-fi/fantasy costumes, and live television award. The ceremony took place at the Ebell theater in Los Angeles, where it was hosted by Jackie Tohn.
