Couche-Tard Executives to Discuss $47 Billion 7-Eleven Bid in Tokyo

Canada’s Alimentation Couche-Tard is sending top executives to Tokyo for a media briefing on its $47 billion bid to buy Seven & i Holdings, the owner of 7-Eleven convenience stores. Founding CEO Alain Bouchard, current CEO Alex Miller, and CFO Filipe Da Silva will hold the meeting on March 13.

Couche-Tard is exploring potential sales of US stores to gain regulatory approval for its takeover bid. The company has identified a portfolio of US stores and is in talks with possible buyers.

However, Seven & i, which operates over 20,000 locations worldwide, has opposed the takeover bid citing concerns over US antitrust laws. The company recently appointed its first foreign CEO, Stephen Dacus, to lead efforts to fend off the bid.

Despite regulatory hurdles, Couche-Tard remains committed to acquiring Seven & i, with a robust proposal made to the company earlier on. The media briefing in Tokyo will provide an opportunity for Couche-Tard’s executives to address concerns and outline their plans.
