Two people scaled the Empire State Building’s antenna and proposed to each other before being arrested. The couple, who wore black masks but no harnesses, stood on a narrow ledge high above midtown Manhattan and unfurled a banner reading “when the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.” They appeared to kiss and take selfies with what looked like a ring, sparking a surprise visit from police. The couple was taken into custody without incident, but their method of getting to the antenna remains unclear.
