COVID-19 activity in the US is increasing, particularly in the Southeast and West regions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports a rise in early indicators, including emergency department visits and test positivity rates.
Emergency department visits rose 10.9% from the previous week, with children under 4 experiencing greater increases. Test positivity rates are also rising, now at 4.8%, up 1.1 percentage points from last week.
Wastewater detections indicate a growing trend, with high levels reported in California, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nevada, South Carolina, and Texas. However, the CDC has not updated its variant proportion projections since June due to limited sequencing data.
