COVID-19 Cases Rise Nationwide, Highest in Western U.S.

COVID-19 cases are on the rise across the US, with the western states experiencing the highest levels of infection, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The latest wastewater activity data shows that COVID-19 levels have increased to a “moderate” level nationwide, up from “low” the previous week.

The Western states, including Alaska, California, Colorado, Nevada, and Utah, are showing high levels of virus detection in wastewater. This increase can indicate a higher risk of infection within communities.

Other metrics also show an uptick in COVID-19 cases, with 45 states experiencing growth or likely growth in infections, up from 40 states last week. Emergency room visits for COVID-19 have risen as well, despite a low overall percentage compared to the previous week.

Experts say that summer spikes are common and often lower than winter spikes, but they can still be concerning, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young people, and those with compromised immune systems.
