COVID-19 Winter Waves: Less Severe This Time Around

Since COVID reached the U.S. five years ago, it has caused tough winter waves of illness year after year. This winter, however, is less severe than previous ones, with hospitalization rates down and wastewater levels lower, indicating reduced virus spread. As we head into winter 2023-2024, public health officials are closely monitoring the pandemic’s impact to help prepare for what lies ahead.
