Cowboys Coach Confident Micah Parsons Will Be Ready for Season Opener

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence that Pro Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons will be available for the team’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4, despite not having a contract extension with Parsons.

Schottenheimer stated that Parsons is expected to be out there when the team lines up against the Eagles in 15 days. He noted that Parsons has been dealing with back tightness and received treatment while in training camp, but emphasized that Micah’s “body takes great care of itself.”

The Cowboys’ general manager Jerry Jones previously mentioned that he believed he and Parsons came to an agreement on a deal in March, but there have been no talks since. Parsons is set to make $21.324 million this season under the fifth-year option of his rookie deal.

While Schottenheimer believes Parsons will be prepared for action, he acknowledged that the lack of on-field work may put him at risk of injury. However, the coach expressed faith in the team’s strength staff and trainers, who are working to get Parsons ready for game day.

The Cowboys must make the final cut to 53 players by Tuesday, which could impact their decision on keeping an extra pass rusher due to Parsons’ status.
