Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer announced that he will meet with edge rusher Micah Parsons on Sunday to discuss his behavior during Friday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Parsons did not play in the game, sitting out instead of wearing a jersey, and was also seen lying on a medical table behind the bench.
Parsons had an MRI on his back, which came back clean, but he has been dealing with back tightness since minicamp in June. The team’s owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, seemed to downplay the severity of the issue during contract negotiations for Parsons’ extension.
Schottenheimer expressed confidence that Parsons will be available for the September 4 opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, but acknowledged uncertainty about his status when assembling the 53-man roster. He also expects cornerback Trevon Diggs to be activated off the physically unable to perform list and be on the roster to start the season.
Diggs is returning from surgery on his left knee and was at risk of missing the first four games if he opened the year on PUP. However, Schottenheimer believes that Diggs has been putting in enough time and effort to get back ready for practice. The coach also mentioned a possible “pitch count” if Diggs were available.
Additionally, left tackle Tyler Guyton may receive more practice time this week after suffering a broken bone in his knee during training camp.
